...Newsflash...

Ars Lucis nominated for the Province of Antwerp Heritage Award 2026

...Vote for us between 1 and 30 october...

Dear supporter of Ars Lucis,

We are proud to announce that Ars Lucis is a nominee for the Province of Antwerp Heritage Award 2026. With this award, the Province of Antwerp recognises initiatives that connect heritage with the present in a unique way.

We are in the running with the stained-glass exhibition ‘Het leven in glas geschreven’ (Life Written in Glass), which took place in April 2024 at Schoten Castle.

We are delighted by this recognition, but you can give us a helping hand by voting for us for the People’s Choice Award.

In this video, Joost explains what makes our candidacy so special. You can read more details below the video.

The Story of Flanders in Glass

The exhibition was an initiative by Joost Caen in collaboration with the Municipality of Schoten and brought together over 100 stained-glass windows, roundels and historical books. They ranged in date from the 13th to the 21st century. The central idea of the exhibition was to highlight the relationship between architectural glass art and literature: drawing on themes from the human life story, the stained-glass was juxtaposed with texts and prints that either served as direct inspiration or dealt with the same theme.

All the objects came from the Caen Collection, one of the world’s most important private collections of historical architectural glass. Furthermore, the collection focuses strongly on the stained-glass production in the (Southern) Low Countries from the Middle Ages to the present day. As such, it offers an unrivalled insight into a unique aspect of ‘the story of Flanders’. As the icing on the cake, several Flemish Masterpieces (officially designated cultural heritage items) were on display, further underscoring the collection's significance.

Significance of the exhibition

Even more importantly, this exhibition served as the direct launchpad for Ars Lucis. At that time, Ars Lucis was merely a dream of Joost, a vision he shared through the exhibition. One of the visitors was so convinced of its value and potential that help was offered to make that dream a reality. And so, the ball started rolling…

The success of the exhibition can be gauged by the number of visitors. In just two weeks, it welcomed nearly 2,000 visitors from home and abroad.

We remain grateful every day for this exceptionally generous gesture and this unshakeable faith in us. Subsequently, other donors and supporters also joined us, proving that the Ars Lucis project inspires a passion for stained-glass art in so many people.

Vote for us

Founded in 2025, we are a young organisation, without any structural support, but with big ambitions. By entering the Province of Antwerp’s Heritage Award, we hope to raise our profile and, who knows, perhaps even win the prize. With your help, we certainly can!

You can cast your vote now via this link.
Voting is open until 12:00 PM (CET) on 30 October.

And please feel free (we’d love it!) to share our posts with your friends, family and colleagues… on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Thank you in advance!

Joost and Liesbeth
